Dan Mailman
I am a computer scientist and principal software engineer building AI-assisted workflow systems, language-input technology, and interactive tools. I am completing a Computer Science PhD at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, expected December 2026, after a long career founding and leading production software companies.
My dissertation develops gesture-efficient multilingual input methods. The public technology thread is muLex, with working English and Mandarin demos that keep the core language logic on the server.
My broader work sits at the practical edge of software engineering, applied AI, computational linguistics, and human-computer interaction: systems that help people inspect, steer, and use complex information rather than simply generate more of it.

A longer-term project is Neuro-Plausible Machine Translation: translation technology shaped around human language cognition, lexical choice, context, and inspectable intermediate representations rather than only opaque end-to-end output.
